Orbitz

Brief:

Orbitz is one of the world’s biggest travel brands that you’ve probably never heard of. Based in Chicago, they’re an expert fare aggregator working on cheap flights, rental cars and hotel deals for people in the US and beyond.

Our team at FireCask were tasked with redesigning the Orbitz blog along with blogs for their other brands. Here’s how we did it.

Our objectives

The initial objective for Orbitz was to ensure that all blogs were powered by one CMS and that they all provided some sort of standardisation. This would allow the Orbitz team to control their posts centrally and much more easily.

We were tasked to build a theme that could be designed and then scaled for all their brands, whilst not sacrificing performance or flexibility. As well as this, we had to ensure that the new design was compatible with mobile and tablet devices, whilst also taking advantage of social media integration and various custom templates.

Results:

We designed and developed a theme for the official Orbitz website, and rolled out theme across 5 other Orbitz brands in 6 weeks. We also successfully migrated the Orbitz for Business website from flat HTML into a responsive WordPress site during this time.
