Expedia – FestivalFindr

We were tasked with designing and building a microsite for Expedia, based around the annual Edinburgh festivals and offering tips for those who attended the events. With a short turnaround time and plenty of work needed to perfect the project, this was a challenging yet rewarding campaign to work on for the FireCask team.

Brief

As microsite developers, we were able to develop Expedia FestivalFindr in response to their collaborative relationship with Festivals in Edinburgh.

The project was designed to offer the ‘inside scoop’ on everything Edinburgh has to offer, focusing on alternative and great value places to stay during August in Edinburgh’s peak festival period.

This helped festival-goers discover some of the amazing alternative accommodation available in Edinburgh. It had everything from vacant student halls to quirky hotels.

We also created Surprise Trips, which we built on Expedia API and worked with inhouse devs to help customise it to our needs to build the site.

We used a combination of our design, marketing and microsite development expertise to make Expedia FestivalFindr a household name. These included:

Results

There were a number of results that were achieved due to the success of the campaign. Microsite development of the Expedia FestivalFindr achieved the following results:

  • Established a streamlined process between three teams in different businesses.
  • Successfully completed the project to client standards in 4 weeks.
  • Launched on the first ‘World Fringe Day’ in July, FestivalFindr found its audience in publications covering this timely event.
  • Generated over 11,000 unique visitors to the FestivalFindr website.
  • Achieved 6 pieces of high-quality press coverage.

We also worked with Expedia organising their online assets more efficiently by ensuring that future independent online assets were organised in the same way, especially those built within WordPress.
