Alex Moss, Director

Alex has been working with HTML since he was 13. His skills, which stem originally from self-taught design and development, have now evolved into a wide range of knowledge in digital marketing and more recently WordPress Development.

After receiving his degree in Law and Information Technology in 2006, Alex took an interest in digital marketing and began working as an independent consultant, immersing himself in all aspects of the industry. Alex has worked for smaller agencies as well as working in-house for a large car retailer.

He particularly enjoys onsite optimisation, auditing and WordPress Marketing, design and plugin development. Alex is also the Co-Founder of Peadig, a Bootstap based WordPress Framework as well as being author to over 10 WordPress plugins. He is also one of a handful of search marketing specialists to contribute towards Econsultancy’s SEO Best Practice Guide.

When not working, Alex enjoys watching films, drinking wine and eating food Anna has made for him 🙂

Anna Moss, Director

Anna started off her career as a successful commercial property solicitor after completing a BA degree in Law and Information Technology. She then went on to pursue a career in the online marketing world and worked for a SEO and web design agency in Manchester and then went on to work in a freelance capacity.

Since her freelance days, Anna has developed her skills within creative content, ideation and business development and now has a great team of content writers behind her. Anna works with a number of clients from various fields including legal, financial, online gaming and retail to name a few. She is usually the first port of call for new and existing clients and she loves a bit of networking!

In 2012 Anna won Young Businesswoman of the Year in the Women in Business Awards and has since been invited to speak at a range of business events. Anna mentors four university students and one college student to assist them with their employability and give them some hints and advice that have helped her along the way. As well as this she works closely with two Manchester based charities providing pro bono content and content strategy work and has held charity events for them.

Anna has gained an excellent reputation both in the digital marketing industry and in the networking scene of Manchester! When not working Anna loves to travel (for any advice on Italy please get in touch!), cook for cast a thousands and drink good red wine!

Ben Barker, Head of Search

Ben’s background isn’t the usual entry in to SEO (is anyones?!), he started out life straight from school working as a personal trainer, he worked in this industry for 6 years then decided it was time for a change!

From here he went on to work in recruiting for SEO professionals but soon realised after the mass rejection that he actually quite enjoyed learning more about SEO, from here he spent countless hours reading up on everything he could and managed to break in to the industry!

During his time working in SEO he has worked for agencies and in house for one of the biggest parenting brands in the UK which has given him a strong insight in to enterprise level SEO as well as SEO for smaller businesses. This means that he can provide insight in to businesses of all sizes and provide actionable and valuable insights to client campaigns.

Rhys Wynne, Lead Developer

Since receiving his first computer – a Commodore 64 – at the tender age of eight, Rhys has always wanted to be involved with computers. Fascinated by the internet at an early age – Rhys self taught himself HTML which stood him in good stead in University and early in his career, which he began in his native North Wales in 2006.

It was there that Rhys found he had a talent for two areas: WordPress Development and SEO, and moved to Manchester in 2010 to work in an Internet Marketing agency, before moving to 3 Door Digital in October 2012.

Rhys is Lead WordPress Developer here at FireCask, and has a passion for developing workable systems in WordPress. A staunch believer in the power and simplicity of the system, Rhys’ day job surrounds developing plugins and themes for clients, as well as supporting the marketing team in any queries they have, and manages the systems here at FireCask to make sure your sites are backed up and fully up to date.

Rhys has definite passion for WordPress, in his spare time he writes his own plugins that have had over 100,000 downloads cumulative on the WordPress Repository. Furthermore he wrote his first book – bbPress Complete – in the summer of 2013.

Away from WordPress and the internet, Rhys is – for his sins – a fan of his local team Colwyn Bay FC, and enjoys rugby and professional wrestling. He is also a keen traveller and a not so keen gym goer.

Rebecca Moss, Head of Content Marketing

Since graduating many moons ago with a degree in New Media from the University of Leeds, Rebecca has worked for both in-house and agency side content marketing roles.

A diverse background includes a stint working on the Turkish Airlines and Manchester United sponsorship account and generating front page coverage in a national newspaper for a small financial services company.

Recently, she appears to have caught the public speaking bug, and is keen to do more in the future, so watch this space.

Data focused content marketing campaigns are Rebecca’s specialty – finding the story in a spreadsheet and knowing exactly who to promote it to is the aim of her game!

Zara Bennett, Social Media Manager

Since graduating Staffordshire University in Film Production Technology in 2014 Zara made the move from a small town in Shropshire to start her city life in Manchester. Her passion for marketing came from her final year at university where she studied digital marketing for film. She then went on to secure her first marketing role for a letting agency in Manchester City Centre…whilst still pulling pints at the weekend.

From there Zara moved to The Gate Films as a Digital Content Intern for 3 months where she had hands on experience with all things digital. Concentrating on Social Media for clients, creative campaigns and generating content regularly. Zara is always keeping up to date with the latest social media trends and how clients can utilise them to maximize their outreach.

Away from FireCask Zara loves a good cold beer and finding great coffee shops where she can chill out at the weekends. She is also an avid visitor of San Francisco so if you need any tips on where is best to eat and obviously dink whilst you are in the city, you can count on her.

Michael Scott, Search Consultant

Michael is from Liverpool and moved to Manchester to study Advertising Management and Brand Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. Michael started at FireCask in September 2013, working one day a week through his course and then carried on working through the summer before going back to complete his degree. Now fully graduated, he just couldn’t stay away, and has joined us on a full time basis as a Search Consultant.

Outside of work Michael is slightly obsessed with Football and prides himself on knowing obscure facts that he will never need in day to day life and supports his hometown club, Liverpool. He is also interested in numerous other sports, listens to a wide variety of music and is at the peak of his enjoyment with a beer in his hand.

Olivia Maloney, Creative Content Consultant

After recently graduating from the University of Leeds with a degree in New Media, Liv has joined our team as Content and Outreach Consultant. With broad expertise, Liv is flexible and can apply herself to tasks across design and written platforms. Internships in both London and Manchester have enabled her to develop proficient skills in the Adobe suite and since, she has worked hard to complete her degree so she could join a creative and talented team.

Alongside her final year at university, Liv and her twin sister set up their own clothing collection. Developing their own brand identity and introducing all things vintage, they have managed to build up an organic customer base of 23,000 followers. Aspirations to be successful in conjunction with an entrepreneurial mindset, has enabled Liv to get to where she is today and she now looks to extend her knowledge and expertise within the industry. When out of the office ­ Liv loves to go out with friends and dedicate some spare time to snowboarding. She also likes to go to festivals, whether they are abroad or in the UK. Above all, she enjoys drinking wine and eating like a King!

Jacek Olczak, Front End Developer

Jacek came to the UK from Poland in 2006 with his family and went straight to college to learn English and IT. Following college he went to the University of Salford and graduated with a 2:1 (missing out on a 1st by 0.5%…) in BSc Internet Computing. After university Jacek worked as a junior developer for a year and a half, and then went on to develop his own bespoke CRM project for 6 months.

Out of work, Jacek is a big car and motorcycle fan. He works on my his vehicles whenever possible and spends more money than he should on them.

Cat Crawford, Creative Content Executive

During her final year of University, Cat started her own beauty blog as a break from endless essay writing. She started to utilise social media to promote her content and after seeing how young online entrepreneurs were using blogs as a marketing tool, she started to learn more and more about content marketing.

After graduating in Film & Video in 2014, Cat decided to pursue her passion for marketing and completed marketing internships in both her hometown of Warrington and Manchester. After completing a 3 month internship at The Gate Films, she was made a permanent Digital Marketing Executive, working on clients video content, blogs and content outreach.

When not in work, Cat spends her time binge watching TV shows, practicing guitar and taking photographs on one of her many cameras.

Will Ellis, Content Marketing Executive

Will started getting his hands into digital growth marketing at University, promoting indie & alternative rock nights through social platforms. It wasn’t long till he applied his knowledge to his career working in Digital agency start-ups in London & Manchester as well as providing digital support for a leading national adoption agency.

In his spare time, he loves to read and research in an attempt to finish his personal studies based around counter-cultures and subcultures of the UK and the rest of the world. As a result of this interest, his love goes beyond the books and into his wardrobe and record collections. Online, he can often be found bombarding BBC 6 Music DJ’s with requests.

Rachel Campbell, Digital PR Executive

Rachel’s content marketing journey began during her time at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she studied Public Relations and Digital Communications Management. Having just finished her final year, much of Rachel’s content marketing skills have been developed through voluntary work experience, a placement year and a part-time role throughout her final year.

Rachel is a huge fan of walking and enjoys heading out at weekends for a quick jaunt, to take in all the glorious countryside views. Her annual long-distance walking trips over the past few years have seen Rachel rack up over 400 miles of rambling! To bring together her love of walking and her passion for writing, Rachel recently started her own walking blog, which she intends to spend more time on, now that university is behind her!

Outside of all this, Rachel loves eating out, drinking gin and spending time with her leopard gecko, Darius!

Sanjay Purewal, Junior SEO Executive

San(Jay) graduated from the Manchester Metropolitan University with a 2:1 in Advertising Management & Brand Management (which is just a long-winded way to say digital marketing). After graduating Jay undertook a graduate scheme with the University in order to apply his digital marketing knowledge and push a struggling company into the online world of the 21st Century. This is where his love of burritos and SEO started to blossom.

In his spare time Jay likes to balance his healthy habit of working out with his unhealthy habit of eating 20 McDonalds chicken nuggets and binge watching TV shows.

Joe Spence, Content Marketing Executive

Since graduating from Sheffield Hallam in 2014, with a 2:1 in Screen Studies and Scriptwriting, Joe had a variety of different jobs, including THAT GUY who would stop you on the street and try and sell you stuff. After that didn’t work out, and after a year of bar work, Joe contacted FireCask who allowed him to have a week of work experience before he went travelling around South America for 5 months.

Joe loved his short week at FireCask, writing various types of content and helping create fresh ideas. He contacted us whilst in Peru, fresh off Machu Picchu, and has now joined us full time, working in the centre of Manchester with so many fantastic options for lunch.

Joe is a huge film fanatic and prides himself on his useless knowledge of film trivia that only seems to come in handy when watching the quiz show “Pointless”. Joe has also completed many marathons in his time… Netflix of course, with a few of his favourite series being The Wire, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Alan Partridge.

Joe is also a big on sports, and loves playing Rugby at his local team Wilmslow Wolves. He is also a huge Manchester United supporter and tries to watch a game whenever he can (maybe not the last few seasons)
